Watching the Xfactor last night was a painful experience. Painful mainly because of what it represented. Normally I look forward to the performances on Saturday. But this was one I really dreaded. Kinda like watching your favourite rapper perform their last show. May sound over exaggerated, but I actually felt that way.
Just like every other week, Misha B brought her A game. Something that only Misha has been able to do week in week out. No other contestant has been as consistent as Misha. But like I said, it hurt to watch. It hurt to watch because everybody new that she is not going to the final and if she does, she’s not going to win. Reason being the public just don’t like Misha B.
How this show has turned out is something that I find to be very saddening. On day one Misha was the favourite to win the show. She killed it in her first audition and never took her foot off the pedal. Looking at talent alone, the only person who can be mentioned in the same sentence as her is the homie Marcus. Other than him, everybody else can sit down!
However, we all know what happened. It is almost impossible to talk about Misha without mentioning Tulisa. What Tulisa did to her is something that may haunt my girl (metaphorically speaking) for years to come. I mean, I have no doubt recording labels will be very interested in signing Misha as soon as she leaves the show. Problem is, if people aren’t voting for her now. Then what’s going to make them buy her albums?
If you look at it, it all falls down on the comments Tulisa made. The way public opinion changed during that week was just crazy! Looking back, the earlier rounds of the competition were a breeze for my girl. But as soon as Tulisa and Louis made those accusations (accusing Misha of being a bully) the whole script changed. Considering their experience, one would have assumed that they knew better than that. Consequentially, Misha had to work twice as hard to impress the public every week and she still found herself in the bottom two more often than not.
It says a lot about the kind of person that Tulisa has played herself out to be on TV. With her apparent experience in the music industry and her knowledge of how big the xfactor is in this country. Why would she bring an off the stage issue on stage if she didn't have some kind of agenda? Given how sensitive the issue was and, the fact that it was not even confirmed whether it was actually bullying or contestants just being competitive. At the time I saw Kelly’s reaction as over the top but after having thought about it, I see why she flipped the way she did.
As a judge and a role model, is it not Tulisa’s job to support and guide these young people? The girl is only 19, she bound to make mistakes and even if she did. You don’t go out and blast her on stage in front of the whole nation. Unless you’re trying sabotage every little bit of confidence that she has. Even up to now I still wonder why she felt it appropriate to make those comments. Was she intimidated? Was she jealous? Nobody but Tulisa knows. What an ‘experienced’ person would have done is to get their facts right and handle the situation behind the curtains. I guess the thirst for attention these days takes too much space to accommodate any traditional ways of dealing with things.
On another sad note, the way in which this debacle has panned out speaks volumes of how much the media actually affects public opinion in this country. All the people heard was the single story, a very brief and one sided argument and that was all they needed to be persuaded. Only I and the minority wanted to hear Misha’s side of the story.
Nonetheless, it was still a great journey for Misha and the girl put a smile on my face each time she sang. She is the only reason I watched ITV in the last few months. I am definitely going to miss the great outfits; the vocals that are second to none and oh sure can’t forget the she is the only one who actually new how to spit bars appropriately. I mean, that’s as modern as the come. As sad as the ending may be tonight, I have enjoyed Misha B’s talents in the last few months and I can’t wait to buy her album.
Love you Misha J!
